Weekend In Savannah

This past weekend Paul and I had the opportunity to travel to Savannah (one of our most favorite cities), for the wedding of a long time Rawson family friend, with my mom and dad.

We stayed at the Presidents' Quarters Inn (http://www.presidentsquarters.com/) which is a fabulous little bed and breakfast in downtown Savannah, and as you can probably guess from the name of the Inn each of the rooms is named after a past President.

Staying at this particular bed and breakfast really worked out great because there were only 2 sleep rooms located on the ground floor and Paul and I got one and my parents were in the other one right next door. It couldn't have worked out more perfectly. The other neat thing was that the only other people staying in the Inn for the weekend were the bride's family and her wedding party, in addition to a few other close friends so it was very intimate.
Paul and I stayed in the Richard M. Nixon Room:

My parents stayed in the Lyndon B. Johnson Room:

If you are planning to travel to Savannah any time soon, I would highly suggest the Presidents' Quarters Inn because they truly treat you like family -- and an added bonus is that it's walking distance from everything!!!

Here's a great picture of my mom and dad in the beautiful courtyard right outside of the front door to the inn:
Anywho, now to our weekend. On Friday night the families of the bride and groom planned a Dessert and Cocktail hour around 9:00 p.m. to welcome all of the out of town guests, so after Paul and I went to dinner with my mom and dad we headed to the party for some dessert and cocktails. Here's a few photos we got:

We got back to the inn pretty early on Friday night and got to sleep in on Saturday morning for a bit before starting our day with a homemade breakfast (made fresh each morning by the Presidents' Quarters Inn staff) and then my mom, Paul and I headed out for some shopping and touring around town while my dad played an early round of golf with some of the other men in town for the wedding.

Here's a couple of pics we got while out and about on Saturday morning:

(My mom saw this tree and wanted Paul and I to climb up so that she could get a shot of us on Bay Street. Although you can't really see us that great, if you zoom in on my camera it's a really neat shot!)

(Every single time we visit Savannah I have to make a quick stop to Paula Deen's shop next to her restaurant, The Lady & Son's. I have yet to eat in her restaurant but the shop is really cute and I always find a little something to bring home.)

Just before noon-time we heard from my dad, and the golfers were headed back to the inn so we made our way back as well so that we could meet up with him for lunch. Paul and I wanted to take my parents to one of our favorite spots to eat on Bay Street, The Cotton Exchange, so that's exactly where we headed. We had a great lunch and the favorite dish of the whole meal was by far the Blackened Tuna Bites - Yum, Yum! I've made a promise to myself to find that recipe so that we can make it at our next family get together; and if all else fails, I'm sure that my brother, the family chef, can come up with something very similar and even more tasty.

Here's a photo mom took of Paul and I by the sign at the front of the restaurant:

After lunch we headed around town for one last look at any stores that we might have missed and then made our way back to the Presidents' Quarters Inn for an afternoon rest and to prep ourselves for the wedding that was only in a couple of hours.

At 5:15 a trolley stopped by the inn to pick up any of the guests that were headed to the ceremony, so we asked the trolley driver to get one quick shot of all of us loaded up and ready to head to the wedding (it doesn't look like many people but keep in mind this was only the guests staying at our particular bed and breakfast):

Side Note: It was really neat because they had buses and trolley's that picked everyone up and took them from their hotel to the ceremony, from the ceremony to the reception, and from the reception back to their hotel. What a great idea!

The ceremony was beautiful, the bride and groom were gorgeous and the reception was breathtaking. We had such a great time and here's a few photos to prove it:

We had a pretty long night on Saturday but it was filled with friends, great food, tons of fun and even a little bit of dancing - each a much needed part to make a great wedding.

On Sunday Paul headed out early because he had to be to work at the airport around 9:00 but it worked out great because I got a little extra time with just my parents. The three of us ended up leaving Savannah around 10:00 and making a stop at the Jax airport to see Paul and he even treated us to a VIP tour - if you've never seen the runnings of an international airport, I must say it really is a cool experience. What a great end to an already great weekend!!!

I want to say a special thank you to my wonderful parents. Mom and Dad, Paul and I had such a phenomenal weekend and we loved getting to spend quality time with the both of you. We love you so much!
